Certificate confirming permission to reside (Aufenthaltsgestattung) - extension
Foreigners seeking asylum in the federal territory are permitted to remain while the asylum procedure is pending. Once they have filed an application for asylum, they are issued with a certificate that is valid for a limited period.
This certificate confirming permission to reside is extended until the decision by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has been made and is no longer contestable or permission to reside expires for another reason.
Extending the certificate is possible two weeks before it expires at the earliest.

Result of the asylum proceedings in the federal territory is still pending
The certificate may only be extended if permission to reside has not expired by law. Permission to reside expires in particular when the Federal Office makes an incontestable decision.

Main residence in Berlin
Taking up residence in Berlin while asylum proceedings are pending must be permitted.
Geographical restriction to the district of any other foreigners authority is not permissible. -

- Minors (under 18 years of age) do not need to attend in person. Please present a current school attendance certificate for children of school age.

At the time of the appointment, the certificate confirming permission to reside should have no more than two weeks' validity remaining.
