Apply for recognition as a test engineer for fire protection
As authorised contractors, test engineers carry out building inspection tasks in accordance with the Berlin Building Code. An inspection engineer for fire protection is anyone who is recognised as such by the Supreme Building Inspectorate. Other persons may not use this designation. Only persons who have their registered office/place of work in the state of Berlin can be recognised.
Test engineers for fire protection are recognised upon application. Recognition procedures are generally carried out every two years following publication in the Official Gazette for Berlin. No applications can be accepted outside of this period. Only those who fulfil the general requirements (§ 4 BauPrüfV) and the special requirements (§ 16 BauPrüfV) can be recognised as test engineers for fire protection. The special requirements also include certification of professional suitability by an examination board set up for this purpose. Applicants must undergo a comprehensive examination procedure consisting of a review of their professional background, a written examination and an oral examination.

Registered office, status
The place of business/work is in the state of Berlin, the activity is carried out as a freelancer or as a legal representative or managing director of an engineering company or as a professor as part-time employment. -
Education
Completed degree in architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering or a degree programme with a focus on fire protection at a German university or an equivalent degree at a foreign university or completion of training for at least the fire service. -
Professional experience
At least five years of full-time professional experience in the fire protection planning and execution of buildings, in particular special buildings of various types with a higher degree of fire protection difficulty or their inspection.

A copy of each of the degree and employment certificates as well as the diploma, bachelor's or master's certificate. -
Certificate of good conduct
Proof of the application for a certificate of good conduct for submission to an authority (document type O), which is not older than 3 months, or an equivalent document. -

Proof of professional experience
Reference object list of ten special building projects of different types with a higher degree of fire protection difficulty of the fire protection certificates drawn up independently in the last ten years. -
Proof of personal responsibility and independence
- Copy of tax office registration or extract from the commercial register or extract from the articles of association,
- Information on the number of engineers working in the office and how many of them are to be employed for testing in the event of recognition,
- Details of any branch offices,
- details of any shareholdings in a company whose purpose is the planning or realisation of construction projects.

The amount depends on the outcome of the procedure
