Certificate confirming the temporary suspension of deportation (Duldung) - extension

The deportation of a foreigner who is enforceably required to leave the federal territory is to be suspended for as long as deportation is impossible in fact or in law and no temporary residence permit can be issued. A certificate is to be issued confirming the temporary suspension of deportation.

The certificate confirming the suspension of deportation is to be extended until deportation is possible or a temporary residence permit can be issued.

Extending the certificate is possible two weeks before it expires at the earliest.

Please note the following if you have a certificate confirming the temporary suspension of deportation which is valid for a longer period of time:
  • Would you like to apply for a work permit or the amendment or cancellation of the residence restriction for your temporary suspension of deportation?
Please do not book an appointment and instead contact the responsible departments A 2-4 at the Landesamt für Einwanderung (Berlin Immigration Office), either digitally or by sending a letter.

  • As of 31.10.2022, have you lived in the Federal Republic of Germany for at least five years without interruption?
If so, you should be issued with a Chancen-Aufenthaltserlaubnis (opportunity right of residence permit) for 18 months upon application and under certain conditions. Please apply online (see section "Further information").

  • There are still reasons for suspending the deportation
A temporary suspension of deportation can only be extended if deportation is still impossible for factual or legal reasons.
  • Main residence in Berlin
There must be no obligation to take up residence in another federal state.

    • Please make an appointment for this.
    • Minors (under 18 years of age) do not need to attend in person. Please present a current school attendance certificate for children of school age.
