Building Chamber - Apply for membership of the Chamber as an engineer
In order to offer your services as an engineer in Berlin, membership of the Berlin Building Chamber n is generally mandatory. The Berlin Building Chamber is the legal professional organisation for all engineers working in the construction industry in the state of Berlin.
In principle, engineers working in the construction industry who practise their profession independently and provide services for projects in the state of Berlin or have their place of business in the state of Berlin must be registered as a compulsory member of the Berlin Building Chamber. This applies in particular to engineers who are entered in the list of authorised building designers in Berlin and are therefore authorised to submit building designs.

- Exceptions
- Engineers working in the construction industry and consulting engineers not working in the construction industry who are not obliged to become members can apply for voluntary membership of the Berlin Building Chamber.
- Persons who are compulsory members of a chamber of engineers in another federal state are exempt from compulsory membership of the Berlin Building Chamber.
Prerequisites

You have the right to use the professional title ‘Engineer’
The prerequisite for this is
- a degree in a technical or scientific subject at a German scientific university, university of applied sciences or university of cooperative education, or
- a degree from a German public engineering school or a German private engineering school with the same legal status as a degree, or
- a successfully completed course in management at a German state-recognised mining school, or
- a right conferred by the competent authority to use the title ‘Engineer’
