Building Chamber - Apply for entry in the list of consulting engineers
If you would like to work as a consulting engineer in Berlin, you need to be registered in the list of consulting engineers. You can apply for registration at the Berlin Building Chamber. The Berlin Building Chamber is the legal professional organisation for all engineers working in the construction industry in the state of Berlin.
The professional title of consulting engineer may only be used by those who are registered under this title in the list of consulting engineers. The designation Freelance Engineer is not permitted.

Prerequisites
- Residence, place of business or place of employment predominantly in the state of Berlin
- Willingness to fulfil professional duties

Use of the professional title ‘Ingenieur’ or professional training
A suitable candidate is someone who is authorised to use the professional title of ‘engineer’ or who has successfully completed professional training for the tasks specified in the law in their field of specialisation at a university, college or university of applied sciences, which comprises a minimum standard period of study of four years or eight semesters. -
Practical activity or qualification
You have completed two years of relevant practical work or have the qualification for the higher civil engineering or surveying administrative service. -
Exercise of a profession

A declaration of previous, existing or otherwise requested registrations in comparable professional registers of other professional chambers in the federal states, in other member states of the European Union or in other states with equivalent status under European Union law -
Proof of professional indemnity insurance
Proof of sufficient professional indemnity insurance for self-employed professionals at the time of taking up the profession -
Certificate of good conduct from the Federal Central Criminal Register for submission to an authority
If there are doubts according to § 36 paragraph 1, unlimited information can be requested from the Federal Central Criminal Register. - Document type 0 (official certificate of good conduct) -
