Hunting licence - apply for issue/renewal

The hunting licence is a permit for the authorised practice of hunting. The hunting licence alone does not entitle the holder to hunt. In addition, authorisation under private law to hunt in a hunting district is required.

A hunting licence can be applied for and issued in different versions:
1. hunting licence (annual hunting licence) for 1, 2 or 3 hunting years
2. day hunting licence
2a) for persons resident in Berlin
2b) for persons resident abroad
3. falconry hunting licence
4. falconer's day hunting licence (online only)
4a) for persons resident in Berlin
4b) for persons residing abroad
5. youth hunting licence (only in writing)
6. hunting licence for diplomats (only in writing)

1. hunting licence (annual hunting licence) for 1, 2 or 3 hunting years
  • An annual hunting licence can be valid for one, two or three years. The respective validity affects the cost of the hunting licence. The hunting year always runs from 1 April to 31 March of the following year.
  • The hunting licence is not only a permit for the authorised practice of hunting but also a permit to purchase long guns and hunting ammunition. It should be noted that when the hunting licence expires, the authorisation to possess ammunition acquired on the basis of the hunting licence expires at the same time. Attention is drawn to the criminal offence of possessing ammunition without the corresponding permit.
  • The application can only be approved if proof of a hunting examination recognised in Berlin is provided.

2. day hunting licence
A day hunting licence is valid for a maximum of 14 days.

2a) Daily hunting licence for persons resident in Berlin
  • The application can only be approved if proof of a recognised hunting examination in Berlin is provided.

  • If you wish to apply for a day hunting licence ("foreigner's day hunting licence") as a person residing outside Germany, you must provide an address for your stay in Berlin and you must provide proof of a hunting invitation.
  • The application can only be approved if you can provide proof of at least one hunting examination recognised as equivalent in Berlin.

3. falconry hunting licence
  • A falconry hunting licence can be valid for one, two or three years. The respective validity affects the cost of the hunting licence. The hunting year always runs from 1 April to 31 March of the following year.
  • The application can only be approved if proof of a falconry examination recognised in Berlin is provided.

4. falconry day hunting licence (application only possible online)

Area entry
  • Areas on which a hunting authorisation exists on the basis of a lease, paid hunting permit (so-called "Begehungsschein") or personal hunting must be entered in the hunting permit.
  • Such areas must be notified to the hunting authority within one month of the conclusion of the lease or licence agreement, submitting the agreement and stating the size of the areas. Exempt from the obligation to register are paid hunting licences in a state hunting district in Berlin as well as licences for individual shooting and free hunting permits.
  • The total area for hunting is limited to a total of 1000 ha per person.
  • The relevant proof (lease agreement, hunting licence or similar) must be submitted.
