Residence permit for university graduates looking for employment

Issuance of a residence permit for the maximum of 18 months after the successful completion of studies, for the purpose of finding a job or establishing a business

Prerequisites

  • Degree
    You must have earned a degree in Germany (Bachelor, Master, Diplom, Magister).
  • (still valid) residence permit for studying
    The residence permit for finding a job (in accordance with section 16 para. 4 AufenthG) can only be issued when it follows / is connected to a residence permit for studying (in accordance with section 16 para. 1 AufenthG).
  • Main residence in Berlin
  • A personal interview is required
    The interview should, if possible, take place by appointment.

  • 1 current biometric photo

    A residence permit may only be issued upon formal request.
  • Health insurance
    Proof of a secure livelihood must also include sufficient health insurance. Those with statutory health insurance are sufficiently insured.   • Degree
    university degree document, testimony or certification showing successful completion
  • Proof of applying for employment
  • Proof of a secure livelihood
    Statement of earnings certificate, salary slips, bank statements, etc.
  • Proof of establishing a business
    Evidence of efforts can for instance be achieved and demonstrated through negotiations with banks regarding the financing of a business idea, searching for appropriate business premises, etc.
  • Proof of main residence in Berlin
    • Certificate of registration at the main residence or
    • lease and written confirmation of occupancy from the landlord

Fees

From 1 September 2017:
  • 56.00 to 100.00 euros (depending on the technical effort)
  • Free of charge for Turkish citizens

Average time to process request

To ensure timely renewal of your current visa or residence permit an appointment should be made 4-6 weeks before the expiry date.
The residence permit will generally be issued as an adhesive label in your passport. Electronic residence permits can at the moment only be issued in exceptional circumstances.
